As that is what the Torrent series is all about, this is a cool-looking, recommendable case. That leaves you with the Fractal Design Torrent Nano being a beautiful, small variant of the massive Torrent, with a focus on air-cooling for an uncompromising use of its full hardware potential. The less impactful alternative is the use of a 240 mm AIO in the front, which also means you have to sacrifice the 180 mm front intake fan you just paid for as part of the case while also limiting your GPU length to a far more modest 285 mm instead of 335 mm with the default cooling unit in the front.Īdditional negative side effects of the ambition to go Nano are that Fractal did not see the need to try to include a fan hub or any additional fans besides the one in the front, which further reduces the number of functional unique selling points of the case. Naturally, being able to install an AIO on the floor is possible, but limits you to no GPU or a single-slot liquid-cooled variant both scenarios severely limit the target audience of the Torrent Nano. If you like to install additional fans on the floor of the case, that compromise means having to limit your GPU choice to anything of dual-slot height, with the upside of some potential for good cooling results.Īny ambitions to use an AIO within the Torrent Nano, however, come with limitations that go against the core of the case and its benefits. The Torrent Nano with its ITX limitation does not have any of that flexibility, so you will have to make some hard choices if you want to go beyond the default single-fan setup in combination with a classic air cooler. With larger cases, you may opt to use this area and still retain access to the top slots of your board, or you may simply base your system on an mATX foundation within those ATX-capable environments. With the PSU in the top of the chassis, the only place you can put additional cooling is on the floor. However, on the interior, using that same general layout of the larger Torrent variants, the Nano does hit some hard boundaries, all of which are not that surprising. Fractal Design has even gone as far as to provide the same slew of variants for you to pick from. It sports the same unmistakable looks and unique layout in a smaller package, even managing to provide one of those massive 180 mm fans. Out of the box, the Torrent Nano delivers on both those elements. With the original Torrent being this massive chassis with five fans and uncompromising air-cooling support, there are plenty of users who may want the same layout and design in a smaller footprint. It is pretty clear why Fractal Design is expanding the Torrent line with two smaller variants, the Compact and Nano. ![]()
